Towels are no longer in fashion: guests of five-star hotels steal mattresses
A new study shows that luxury hotels have to deal with guests who steal mattresses more often than anyone would have expected. Writes about it Fox News.
According to a survey conducted by Wellness Heaven, an expert on hotels and spas, in five-star hotels the likelihood that guests will steal large items is greater than the probability of theft of small items.
The survey involved 634 four-star hotels and 523 five-star hotels, located mainly in Europe.
Wellness Heaven CEO Tassilo Keilmann talked to many hotel owners and found out how guests can steal something as big as a mattress.
According to Kailman, guests will most likely try to take out the mattress at night when the reception is closed.
The survey also showed that the items that guests would try to steal vary depending on the quality of the hotel. While five-star hotels are more likely to lose large items (such as televisions and coffee machines), in four-star hotels, guests carry batteries and remote controls with them.
Kailmann also said that he was surprised that guests were even trying to steal large items, as the hotel can easily find out who picked up the item. He also noted that five-star hotels are less likely to report theft because they do not want to be associated with any crime. Robes and hangers are also stolen, but they are easier to replace than mattresses.
