Police detained a student who was preparing a terrorist attack in New York
New York police detained an American student Munter Omar Saleh on suspicion of preparing a terrorist attack in the metropolis. This is evidenced by court documents published on Tuesday.
According to police, the young man, who studied at a college in the New York borough of Queens, supported the terrorist group "Islamic State" (IS) and intended to make an explosive device and detonate it in the city. He was also allegedly planning to translate IS propaganda materials into English. The student did not hide his views and posted posts on social networks in support of IS militants.
He was arrested on June 7, allegedly after he attacked a law enforcement officer who was watching him. Saleh appeared in court on Saturday, June 13. According to the authorities, the young man, in particular, searched the Internet for information on how to make bombs from pressure cookers, change appearance and hide from the police.
