New York Police: in the subway - do not sleep
New York police has solved the issue of combating high levels of crime in public transport. Police officers will wake up the passenger who dozed off, as it is sleeping passengers in most cases become victims of criminals.
Commissioner of the city police, William Bretton said: "This is not a fight with sleep in the subway," the commissioner said, "this is a fight against crime, because most of the subway passengers who fell victim to pickpockets did not even notice the fact of theft, as at that moment they dozed."
He also noticed that he was not worried about the number of attacks with a knife, but about the increase in abductions and sexual harassment. For example, in January of this year in the subway occurred on 25 grave crimes more than in January of last year.
“Passengers must always be on alert,” the commissioner continued, and told how his wife once missed her train because she saw a suspicious man inside. “She was wise enough not to get into trouble.”
Bretton advised passengers not to take the last or empty car. The best is for a carriage where MTA employees are located.
It is worth noting that a similar campaign to awaken passengers was carried out in 2012, due to the increase in crime in the subway.
From the speech of the police chief, it should be understood that since there are no opportunities to cope with crime, they will fight sleeping passengers.
