New York Police confiscated a record amount of drugs
Last month, New York police confiscated a record number of synthetic opioid fentanyl in the history of the city - 90 kg. According to the police, the substance was enough to kill more than 30 million people from overdoses.
Police reported that 1 in August in Kew Gardens in Queens in one of the apartments seized more than 64 kg of pure fentanyl and 23 kg of fentanyl-lilac heroin. Two men, Rogelio Alvarado-Robles and Blank Flores-Solis, were also detained. They were charged with criminal possession of a prohibited substance.
In addition, 5 September police seized 25 kg of fentanyl and heroin in the Bronx. Prohibited substances found in a car near the Yankee Stadium. Two people were arrested at the scene.
The total cost of drugs was $ 30 million.
Authorities note that in 2016, more than 20 000 people in the United States died from synthetic opioids, which is two times more than a year earlier.
