A teenager staged a mass shooting in North Carolina: five people were killed, four were injured
In Raleigh, North Carolina, five people aged 16 to 52 were shot dead, including a police officer who was not on duty at the time; several people were injured. Writes about it with the BBC.
Police say a 15-year-old suspect has been arrested. He was wounded and is in the hospital in critical condition. Details of how the juvenile shooter was seriously injured have not yet been disclosed, writes USA Today.
The shooting took place near the Noise Greenway River, on a popular walking trail on the outskirts of the state capital, the mayor said.
The motive has not yet been established, but police Lieutenant Raleigh Jason Borneo said it is likely they will figure it out in the coming days.
“Tragedy reached our doorstep tonight. The nightmare has come to Raleigh,” North Carolina Gov. Roy Cooper said.
The shooting began after 17:00 local time.

Mayor Mary Ann Baldwin said law enforcement "pushed the shooter back to a residential building in the area."
Raleigh police officers then tweeted that the suspect had been taken into custody.
Several witnesses said they saw a young man dressed in camouflage clothing and holding a long gun walking around the area. The Wall Street Journal.
The shooter, Borneo said, was "an underage white male."
At least two people, including one police officer, were injured and taken to hospital, the mayor said.

One victim is in critical condition.
Mass shootings are a constant problem in the United States.
According to the Gun Violence Archive website, more than 2022 people died as a result of shootings in the United States in 34, more than half of them were suicides.
“We must stop this senseless violence in the US. There is an urgent need to address the issue of gun violence. We have a lot to do,” Governor Cooper said.
