'Raised and thrown on his back': a United passenger attacked a flight attendant and stormed the cockpit

Police arrested a passenger on a United Express flight after attacking a flight attendant and storming a cockpit, writes Fox News.

One of the passengers on the flight said that the plane was about to land when the suspect rushed to the cockpit. The stewardess blocked his road.

As a result of the ensuing fight, the stewardess and six law enforcement officers were injured.

The intruder, Matthew Dingley, was taken into custody after a United Express flight from Dulles International Airport landed in Newark. The incident occurred on January 9th.

“This guy was running full speed towards the cabin, banging on it, trying to knock down the door,” said one of the passengers, Mike Egbert. After the flight attendant tried to intervene, Dingley began attacking her, he said.

Another passenger on the plane, who apparently had experience with law enforcement, helped control the situation. Unfortunately, this did not end there.

Port Authority police took Dingli into custody, but only after he continued to fight with officers.

“He would pick up a police officer and throw him on his back,” Egbert said.

The stewardess was taken to the nearest hospital. Six airport administration officers were injured during the incident: according to doctors, their full recovery is expected.

Dingli is accused of aggravated assault, criminal assault, resistance to arrest and interference with transport.

The incident occurred during a flight with United Express' partner airline, CommutAir. An airline spokesperson told Fox News that CommutAir Flight 4965, a United Express flight from Dulles to Newark, landed without incident. Because of the violent passenger, he was met by representatives of local law enforcement agencies.

“Our primary concern is to ensure the safety of all customers and crew and we are co-operating with the police. We are grateful for the quick response of passengers and crew during this incident,” a company spokesperson said in a statement.
