U.S. Postal Service massively delayed delivery of ballots on election day
The U.S. Postal Service failed to deliver a significant percentage of ballots on election day to several states that could determine who wins the presidential contest between President Donald Trump and Joe Biden, according to figures filed in federal court on Wednesday, Nov. 4. Writes about it CNBC.
Among the states that have had relatively low rates of mail-in ballot delivery are Georgia, Pennsylvania, Michigan, North Carolina and Wisconsin. Current vote tallies in these states show little difference between the two candidates. Results in these states may depend on mail-in ballots.
Later on Wednesday, November 4, a Postal Service spokesman said: “The assumption that there are uncounted bulletins on the Postal Service's network is incorrect. These ballots were delivered before the election deadline. ”
“We have taken extraordinary measures to deliver ballots directly to local election officials. These ballots bypass certain processing steps and do not undergo final scanning. Instead, they are sent directly to election commissions. We remain in close contact with state and local election officials and have no open issues at this time. In addition, the Postal Inspection Service conducted physical inspections of all ballot processing facilities,” the spokesperson added.
The Postal Service also told a federal judge that it did not comply with his order to check post offices in 12 districts on election day for remaining ballots within the judge's deadline. The disclosure took place prior to the hearing in the US District Court in Washington, DC.
Judge Emmett Sullivan at this hearing was furious that postal officials did not inform him of the failure to comply with prescribed checks, but only reported the next day, long after polling stations across the country closed.
“Someone may pay for this,” said Sullivan, who also added that Postmaster General Louis DeJoy may have to testify in the case.

“I want you to explain what the hell happened yesterday,” Sullivan told Joseph Borson, the Justice Department lawyer who is representing the Postal Service in the case. Borson said site inspections were already scheduled for after 3 p.m. ET on Election Day and could not be rescheduled.
“The postmaster must either provide an affidavit or appear before me and testify under oath as to why certain actions were not taken after the court issued an order,” Sullivan said. “Whether we should spend time on this today, I’m not sure, but I’m not going to forget it.”
Kevin Bray, the Postal Service chief responsible for handling mail for the election, testified about the ballot-handling process when the hearing resumed.
Data based on envelope scans filed with Sullivan's court on Wednesday Nov. 4 shows that in South Florida, only 85,12% of the ballots sent by mail were delivered on election day.
Biden is expected to surpass Trump in mail-order voting in several places. Trump has questioned the legitimacy of mailed ballots and absentee ballots in which Biden's results threaten his path to electoral college victory.
In central Pennsylvania, only 61,3% of mail-order ballots were delivered on time, based on scans in court documents. In Philadelphia, just over 66% of the ballots were delivered by mail on election day.

In Atlanta, 82,2% of the ballots sent by mail were delivered on election day, court documents show.
The Detroit Postal Services reported less than 79% percent of ballots mailed on time.
In Greensboro, North Carolina, 72,9% of the ballots sent by mail were delivered on election day.
And in Lakeland, Wisconsin, just under 77% of those ballots were delivered.
