The United States is a country with a very low population density. As such, there are no “walking distance” stores, so going to the store is a whole process: you need to set aside time, make a shopping list and drive to the nearest or not so supermarket.

In the states there is a very popular Costco chain of stores - an analogue of the Metro chain, where you can often buy various groceries, clothes and other goods much cheaper than in regular retail stores. When I lived in Wisconsin, the nearest store was located 10 minutes from home, but in the state of Rhode Island there is no such chain of stores, and we have to travel to the neighboring state of Massachusetts an hour or 90 km away:

Immediately at the entrance there is a department with alcohol. On average, a bottle of wine costs 10-15 bucks, a box of beer 25-30 bucks. An interesting feature - on the price tags they don’t write what kind of wine it is (sweet, semi-sweet, dry), even when you ask the seller, they have no idea what I’m asking about. Every time you have to choose at random.

An important point on the topic of taxes: tax is usually not included in the price and is paid separately. This tax is different in each state. On average this tax is approximately 5%. Some states do not tax food. There are several reasons why the tax is paid separately, one of them is that the store declines responsibility for raising prices due to the tax. Imagine if at Russian gas stations the cost of gasoline was indicated without taxes, such as 15 rubles, and another 25 would have to be paid separately in the form of a tax. I’m sure motorists would have a lot of questions, especially if they noticed that this tax is constantly being increased.

In the store, food in packages is not laid, but you can take cardboard boxes and put everything in them. As practice has shown, cardboard boxes are much more convenient than packages:

In the states there is no concept of an official language, but by default English is considered the main one, although often the inscriptions are duplicated in Spanish, like this example:
