Why has measles returned to the US
Measles returned to the United States. This easily preventable disease was eliminated in the 2000 year, but in the last 10 years the disease has returned, writes VOX.
More people fell ill with measles in the first three months of 2019 than in all of 2018. Outbreaks of the disease do not occur throughout the United States—they occur only among certain groups of people.
Dissemination of information against vaccination can lead to a decrease in the number of children who are immune to the disease. The smaller in the group of vaccinated children, the greater the risk that the whole group could lose their “normal immunity”.
When this happens in small, cohesive groups of people, measles can spread like wildfire. 75% of all recent measles cases have occurred in these small communities.
To make sure you are protected against measles, you need to get vaccinated. Most states allow parents to refuse to vaccinate their children—and this is leading to a resurgence of measles.
