'Why is this city so terrible': tourists are shocked by the state of San Francisco

Visitors to San Francisco (California), tourists admit to social networks, that the state of the city plunges them into shock, and they are interested: maybe they just got into the “bad part” of the metropolis.

This is due to the long-standing problem of high levels of homelessness, drug addiction and various streets of San Francisco, which over the years has only worsened, writes Fox News.

Visitors to the city write in social networks about needles from syringes wallowing in the streets, human feces, and also that many areas of the metropolis are just dotted with slums in which the growing homeless population of the city lives.

“Is this normal or am I in a bad part of town?” an Australian tourist who visited San Francisco in June 2018 wrote on social media Reddit.

He added that his wife is now afraid to leave the room, after they saw the scene of the murder being processed by the police.

Employees of local hotels and travel companies said that many tourists are shocked by the state of San Francisco.

"I've never seen a city like it - homelessness, dirty streets, drug use on the streets, destruction and chaos," said Joe D'Alessandro, the agency's president. SF Travel.

“You see things on the streets that are just inhumane. People come to hotels with the only question: “What is going on here?” They're just shocked,” said Kevin Carroll, executive director of the San Francisco Hotel Council.

California's homeless population numbers more than 130 000 people, which is about 25% of the total number of homeless people across the country.

San Francisco Mayor Mark Farrell announced a $750 initiative in April to hire additional workers solely to help clear needles and syringes from the city's hot spots. Each month, public health and nonprofit workers collect approximately 000 needles and syringes from the streets of San Francisco.

Some city residents say the metropolis "needs Rudy Giuliani," the former New York mayor whose tough-on-crime stance helped clean up the city in the 1990s, local politicians say.

Although San Francisco was named Conde Nast Traveler one of the most beautiful cities in the world 50 in January 2017, many tourists do not want to come there for the second time.

“We are the most beautiful city that no one wants to come back to,” said Anna Coles, a real estate agent in San Francisco.
