Escape from Hell: How a woman from Texas experienced 17 years of bullying uncle and aunt

In 1996, Abby Alvarado was a scared 8-year-old girl when the Child Protection Service took her from her mother's house in San Antonio, Texas, with her brothers and sisters. Three brothers and sisters were sent to live in Hawaii along with their uncle Eusebio Castillo, a sergeant of the US Army, and his wife Laura, a child care worker.

Although she was sad to part with her mother, she thought life in Hawaii would be an adventure. Instead, life has become a nightmare.

For 17 years, her uncle and aunt physically and sexually mocked her when the family lived in Hawaii and then in Texas. More shocking is the fact that Castillo, who adopted her and her brothers and sisters, made her give birth to three children from him.

“They were in bed and told me to sit on the bed with them,” says Abby, now 30. - We will talk. This is what you will do, that’s all.”

In the 2005 year, when Abby was a 17-year-old high school student, she gave birth to her first daughter. Three years later, she gave birth to a second daughter, and in 2011, her son was born.

Around the year of 2013, when she was 25 years old, she found the strength to leave. This happened after she met her future husband, Rudy, at the Castillo home in San Antonio.

“One day he came to church, and something told me that he would be the one to help me,” she says.

With the help of Rudy, she fled Castillo's house with her three children and went to the 20 police on July 2014.

“I knew I was going to get older, and he wanted someone younger,” she said of Eusebio. — I have two daughters. They are as follows. They're next in line. There's no one else here. I did this for my girls and my son because they are my world."

After Abby escaped, Castillo fled from San Antonio, but in 2017, they were arrested.

In June, 2018, 46-year-old Laura Castillo pleaded guilty to three counts of sexual abuse and was sentenced to 33 years in prison. 48-year-old Eusebio Castillo pleaded guilty in October and received 5 life sentences.

“These people are just evil,” says Bexar County District Attorney Nicholas LaHood.

Today, Abby hopes that by sharing her story, she will help others.

“I don’t want people to feel sorry for me,” she says. “I open myself up for people to hear my story and learn from it.”
