ICE is creating a special call center to find undocumented children.
US Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) plans to open a call center with a dedicated unit to track unaccompanied minor migrants who arrive in the US, it reports. NBC News.
State and local police will be involved in the search for migrant minors. This is part of a broader Trump administration initiative to identify and potentially deport such children.
According to a document posted on the government contracting website on November 4, the center is intended to facilitate the transfer of information from state and local police to federal authorities, specifically data on the location of unaccompanied minors. ICE plans to create a center capable of handling 6 to 000 calls per day, 000/7.

In February, the Trump administration launched a project to locate and deport unaccompanied minors. This is an unprecedented effort to identify children who illegally crossed the US-Mexico border without parents or guardians.
Since then, the Trump administration has taken other steps to tighten enforcement, including attempting to deport dozens of children from Guatemala, despite them having active immigration cases in the United States.
The White House has significantly expanded its collaboration with state and local authorities to increase immigration apprehension through the 287(g) program. According to ICE, the number of state and local agencies participating in the program has increased from 135 to more than 1,100 during the Trump administration. (The 287(g) program is an initiative created under the Immigration and Nationality Act that allows the Department of Homeland Security, through Immigration and Customs Enforcement, to enter into agreements with state and local law enforcement agencies.)
Under these agreements, specially trained state or county police officers are granted limited powers as federal immigration agents. They can verify the immigration status of detainees, share information with ICE, and assist in the deportation of individuals unlawfully present in the country. Note.)

The program is voluntary—local authorities decide whether to participate. However, it has been controversial. Supporters believe it helps apprehend dangerous undocumented criminals, while critics claim such partnerships undermine trust in immigrant communities and reduce people's willingness to report crimes.
According to contract documents, the call center will be located in Nashville, but the reasons for choosing that city are not explained. However, Nashville is known to be the headquarters of CoreCivic, one of the main companies contracted by ICE and operating immigration detention centers.
