Pizza Hut has created a 6-ton pizza, and it has already broken at least one record

When Pizza Hut decided to bring back its "big New York" pizza — a cheese and pepperoni pie with foldable slices that could be eaten on the go — the company wanted to find a way to celebrate the news. And the best way to do this, they chose to cook one huge pizza! How Pizza Hut set the record for the world's largest pizza CNN.

In a fairly large convention center in Los Angeles, California, Pizza Hut hosted a 14-square-foot (001-square-meter) pizza that broke the world record for being the largest pizza in the world, as confirmed by members of the Guinness Committee .

To complete the task, the workers first laid out layers of dough, then applied tomato sauce, then added the filling. At the end of this process, huge heat lamps cooked the pizza.

In total, the record-breaking pizza took 13 pounds (653 kg) of dough, 6 pounds (193 kg) of pizza sauce, over 4 pounds (948 kg) of cheese and 3 slices of pepperoni to make the record-breaking pizza.

Pizza Hut CEO David Graves said the pizza will not go to waste: once this fact and all the parameters were documented for the Guinness Book of Records, 68 slices of it were donated to local food banks.

“We were the first to deliver pizza. We are the first to accept orders online. Graves said. “We've always done big and exciting things. So breaking the world record for the world’s largest pizza felt right to celebrate the return of our largest pizza.”

The previous Guinness record for the world's largest pizza was set in 2012 by a group of Italian chefs. Their 1261,65 square meter pizza was gluten-free and named Ottavia.
