I confused a bald head with a ball: at a football match, a 'smart' camera filmed a judge

On October 25, the Scottish team “Inverness Caledonian” in the local championship (second division in terms of level) hosted Air United. Inverness is a small club that plays in a stadium with a capacity of 7,5 thousand people, and such teams often cannot afford professional equipment and operators. Therefore, some of them are acquiring “smart” cameras, the artificial intelligence of which is trained to independently track the soccer ball.

The most popular of these devices is made by the Danish company Veo Technologies. According to its representatives, the system was purchased by more than two thousand teams, mainly - clubs from the lower leagues and youth squads of giants like Liverpool. The camera is suspended at the stadium - and it itself monitors the ball without the help of an operator and producer, thereby allowing the game to be broadcast.

It is not known if Inverness had a camera from Veo Technologies or an analogue from another manufacturer, but something went wrong in the game against Air United. According to fans, the AI ​​camera kept confusing the soccer ball with the head of the bald side judge. One of the tweets on this topic was widely circulated: it was noted that the commentator apologized for the behavior of the "smart" camera.

The match ended with the score 1: 1. Representatives of "Inverness" after the game did not specify what happened and whether they will leave the "smart" camera for the next broadcasts.
