Flights between California and Mexico canceled due to Hurricane Patricia
A dozen flights between California and the popular tourist destination of Mexico have been canceled as Category 5 Hurricane Patricia hits the country.
According to the portal Flightaware.com, canceled flights to the Mexican city of Puerto Vallarta from Los Angeles, San Diego and Orange County, as well as Alaska Airlines flight from San Francisco. Flights from Puerto Vallarta also fly in the opposite direction.
As the employee of KCBS radio station told, all flights from San Francisco were crowded, and she could not get on the flight. Guests of the coastal hotel in which she stayed were evacuated and sent by bus to Guadalajara.
However, according to KPIX’s leading weather report, Roberta González, Guadalajara herself could be under the pressure of a violent storm that could lead to flooding. At the same time, the wind in the Guadalajara area will be quite weak.
Residents of resort areas and fishing villages on the Pacific coast are lashing their homes and stocking up on the threshold of a storm.
Maximum wind speed Hurricane Patriciawhich is the strongest hurricane in the history of the region, including the Atlantic Ocean and the eastern Pacific Ocean, is about 325 km / h.
In terms of its destructiveness, Patricia is comparable only to Typhoon Haiyan, which hit the Philippines on November 8, 2013 and killed more than 6300 people.
Mexican authorities have declared a state of emergency in dozens of municipalities in the states of Colima, Nayarit and Jalisco, including the bustling port of Manzanillo and the luxury resort of Puerto Vallarta. Colima's governor decided to close all schools Friday after the National Hurricane Center predicted Patricia's "potentially catastrophic" impact on the region.
It is expected that the epicenter of the hurricane will reach the Mexican coast by the evening of October 23.
