Pentagon uses Russian tricolor to congratulate Americans on US Flag Day

Social media users have spotted elements of the Russian flag in a US Department of Defense publication dedicated to Flag Day, writes Money Control.

Social media users have taken note of a Flag Day post by the Defense Department in X, which they believe features reminiscent of the Russian tricolor. The post, published on June 14, showed a design with red, white, and blue stripes. This has outraged users, who have condemned the similarity to the colors of the Russian flag.

The post read: "Today we celebrate Flag Day by honoring the stars and stripes that symbolize our freedom and unity."

However, some users on social media, particularly on the X platform, noted that the arrangement of the colours - red, white and blue - resembled the Russian flag, prompting speculation and jokes about a possible mistake or intentional allusion.

One wrote: "Red, white, blue... is that the Russian tricolor in a post for US Flag Day?" Others suggested it could have been an attempt at trolling or simply a poor design. Some commenters defended the post, explaining that the colors of the American and Russian flags match, and that the stars and stripes clearly reference the US standard.

The Pentagon has yet to comment on the situation or specify whether the design choice was accidental or intentional. The incident has sparked heated discussions online.
