A Pennsylvania woman found a 3,09-carat white diamond in an Arkansas state park.
Keshia Smith discovered the stone during a visit to Crater of Diamonds State Park in Murfreesboro, Pike County, the Arkansas State Parks Department announced in a Facebook post on May 11. The amazing find was described by CBS News.
The report states that the trip "provided an unexpected moment of light" for Smith, who is grieving the loss of her son and father. As the publication's authors noted, the discovery "seemed preordained."
Smith named the gemstone the Za'Novia Liberty Diamond—in honor of her grandchildren and in honor of the 250th anniversary of the United States. Photographs show the diamond to be flat, smooth, and colorless, about the size of a bead.

"Moments like these remind us why Crater of Diamonds State Park is a special place," the post said.
Crater of Diamonds State Park is the only place in the world where visitors can search for natural diamonds in their natural volcanic source. According to the park's website, a plowed area of approximately 37 acres is open for prospecting, where visitors can find rocks, minerals, and gems, and are allowed to take anything they find home.
