In response to the coronavirus pandemic, church services and Easter concerts were canceled worldwide to limit the spread of COVID-19, reports USA Today.

Episcopal Church leader Michael Curry said in an online statement March 17 that suspending services “at this time is the most prudent step, even during Holy Week and Easter Day,” which is Sunday.

“It is important to emphasize that the suspension of meetings does not interfere with worship,” he added. “I’m very supportive of online worship.”

Houston-based Lakewood Church, owned by TV host Joel Austin, will broadcast a stellar Easter service.

In addition to music from Austin and his wife Victoria, the service will feature performances remotely from Kanye West (who will also be joined by his Sunday Service Choir) as well as Mariah Carey, who will sing her 1993 classic "Hero." Tyler Perry will also join the broadcast.

Easter services will be broadcast on Saturday, April 11, at 8 p.m. EDT and Sunday at 9:30 a.m. Eastern time. They will be available for viewing live on Lakewoodchurch.com/EasterAs well as Facebook, YouTube, Roku, Apple TV и SiriusXM Channel 128.

Famous opera singer Andrea Bocelli will appear in front of the audience live on Easter Sunday from the historic cathedral of Milan.

The concert, titled “Music for Hope,” is not a church service. It will gather the audience to “embrace the pulsating heart of this wounded Earth,” as Bocelli himself put it.

“I believe in the power of corporate prayer, I believe in the Christian Easter, a universal symbol of rebirth that everyone, whether they are believers or not, really needs right now,” he said. “It will be a joy for me to watch this action, which describes the mystery of birth and rebirth, during the Easter celebration in the Duomo.”

Accompanied by organist Emanuele Vianelli, Bocelli will sing in the historic cathedral only for online viewers, because the Duomo, like most public places, is closed due to a pandemic. The concert will be broadcast live on April 12 on the tenor channel in YouTube from 13:00 p.m. EST.

“This is not a performance. This is not a concert. It’s just a prayer,” Bocelli said. “I will go there to pray, and I want to believe that everyone who listens to me sing will pray with me.”

Pope Francis will broadcast live on Easter
