A couple from Texas 16 for years secretly kept at home a slave brought from Africa
In Southlake, Texas, a married couple, Mohamed Touré, son of the first President of Guinea, Ahmed Sekou Touré, and his wife, Denis Florence Cross-Touré, are accused of capturing and forcing a young West African girl to work for 16 years. As writes Daily Mail, they face up to 20 years in prison.
The couple brought a girl from the Republic of Guinea to their home in 2000, when she was 5 years old. Over the course of 16, they have forced her to cook, clean, nurse their children. The girl managed to escape.
The girl did not know English and could not turn to anyone for help. She has been engaged in cleaning, painting, washing for several years, watching the children. She was not paid for the work and was not given the opportunity to go to school.
Toure took her documents from her and did not extend the visa after her tenure expired. The girl was also not allowed to communicate with her family.
Lawyer Denise Cross-Toure Scott Palmer said that his client does not recognize the charges and claims that the girl was considered a family member and was raised as a daughter.
Ahmed Sekou Toure was the first president of Guinea. He served as head of state from 1958 to his death in 1984.
