Ban Ki-moon arrives in Moscow for the Victory Parade

UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon will travel to Moscow to attend the celebrations on the occasion of the 70 anniversary of the Victory in the Great Patriotic War, and also plans to meet with Russian President Vladimir Putin. The official representative of the General Secretary, Stefan Dujarrik, told reporters about this.

“The Secretary General will go to Moscow for Victory Day celebrations on May 9,” Dujarric said. “During his stay in Russia, he will meet with President Vladimir Putin, as well as the heads of delegations of several other countries who will be present at the celebrations.” Ban Ki-moon will be accompanied by Director General of the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) Irina Bokova during his visit to Moscow.

According to Dujarrik, on his way to Moscow, Ban Ki-moon plans to stop in Gdansk (Poland) and in Kiev 7 and 8 in May, where he plans to meet with the presidents of the two countries Bronislaw Komorowski and Petro Poroshenko, as well as other officials.

25 April it became known that the UN Secretary General will arrive on a visit to Moscow and take part in celebrations on the occasion of the 70 anniversary of the Victory in the Great Patriotic War.

“The flight to Moscow is scheduled for May 8. In Russia, the Secretary General will take part in the festivities and return back on May 11,” said a source at the headquarters of the world organization.

Previously Ukraine applied to the UN with a request to introduce peacekeepers to the east of the country.
