But Los Angeles authorities have reported a string of house parties organized during the pandemic. In early August, a woman was fatally injured at a party in the city's Beverly Crest area, which was attended by about 200 people.

Mayor Garcetti told reporters that parties often take place in empty homes or in short-term rentals.

“The effects of these big parties ripple far beyond the party,” he said. “They are flaring up throughout our community because the virus can spread quickly and easily.”

According to Worldometers, as of the morning of August 10, the United States remains the leader in the number of coronavirus cases - 5 people were infected, 213 of them died.
