Desperately conquered the ice: how a schoolgirl from Kiev got into world news

The most popular video of the last three “icy” days in Kyiv (Ukraine) is an episode where a girl with a large briefcase on her shoulders tries to climb up Podol, but to no avail - the schoolgirl falls again and again, many times, writes "The country".

The heroine of the video turned out to be a 9-year-old Kiev schoolgirl Masha Moiseenko. The girl literally woke up famous this week. The video, in which she unsuccessfully climbs on the ice on Andriyivskyi Uzviz, flew around the Ukrainian and world media.

“Strana” found the “conqueror of St. Andrew’s Descent.” Masha told the publication that they had already begun to recognize her on the streets - by the very hat in which she tried to overcome the elements.

“I didn’t count how many times I fell, but judging by the video, 40 times for sure,” Masha admits.

The girl feels well - there were only bruises.

- I was delighted when I saw that everyone was posting a video with me. I didn’t expect my action to get on the Internet. Many people write, call - ask how I feel. I feel popular. They even recognize me on the streets - by the hat I wore in that video.

“Strana” talked to the girl’s mother, Inna Moiseenko, about how her daughter became an Internet star and how Masha herself perceives accidental popularity.

- What did you feel when you saw that the video with your daughter was replicated by hundreds of Ukrainian and foreign media?

- I immediately recognized Masha in the video. I felt very sorry for her. The first half day I thought about this video, I felt like crying. And then we got used to the idea that Masha is an Internet star.

- Did Masha hurt herself when she fell on the ice?

“No, thank God, she only has a couple of bruises on her knee and leg. Masha herself came home that day, cheerful, absolutely not frightened. True, she later admitted that when she climbed the Andreevsky Spusk, she was scared - for the first time she faced such ice. It seemed to her that she would pass this section, and there would be no further ice. It all happened unexpectedly. Literally an hour before, the roads were dry, there was not even a hint of ice. Then it got colder, it started raining heavily, and in 15 minutes all the streets were covered with ice. Masha then walked from class, her older brother always meets her, they go to meet each other: he goes down the Andreevsky Descent, and Masha goes up. The teacher told her - they say, there is ice. But Masha was sure that it would come. When she arrived at the meeting place with her brother, she was surprised that he was not.

- He, too, could not pass because of the ice?

- Yes, he had to climb up from the other street, and then go down the Andreevsky. Nobody could get through there. There was not just ice there, but also a sharp rise - you couldn't even catch your hands! It was at this place that there was just a skating rink. Brother to follow Masha exactly 10 minutes - and he left in 10 minutes. And it went 40 minutes.

- Have you read the comments under the video with Masha? How do you react to criticism in your address - they say, the child is not dressed so, not so shod, why go there and so on?

– You have no idea – thousands of people write to me! And in Japanese, and in Chinese, and in Italian, and in English. All of America watched the video with Masha; it was shown in India and Pakistan. I can’t respond to everyone’s comments – my son helps. In fact, mostly everyone admires Masha’s tenacity and character. In the comments under the video they write that my Masha is our future mayor! But there are also 1% of those who criticize. “You should have thought better of it and not climbed that hill,” or “Why didn’t she take the metro?” Why did she need the metro if she was almost near the house? Or “Why does she have those boots?” Masha has new, good boots, not UGG boots, with thick, high-quality soles. As I understand it, all this is written by people who do not have children.

- Out of curiosity, did you try to calculate how many media published the video with your daughter?

- For us, in general, it's a complete surprise that this video turned out to be so “viral”. We were contacted from various media, from many countries. On one of the foreign media alone, the video with Masha gained 7,5 million views per day. Even for the editorial board, it was a complete shock. As one journalist told us, even their famous athletes do not get that many views after winning. Nobody expected this. We ourselves have nothing to do with the promotion of this video. We do not know who recorded this video and posted it on the Internet. But, on the other hand, Masha's behavior on the recording did not surprise me at all.

- What do you have in mind?

- Our Masha has a strong, athletic character. She is small, but very purposeful. If she decided to do something, she should not be forced - she will bring everything to the end by herself. She is engaged in aerial acrobatics and loves it very much. She also sings, does needlework, sews soft toys and plays the piano. And you know, this accidental popularity that fell on Masha is still no coincidence. Probably, even in the video, you can see that Masha is cheerful and stubborn. This is transmitted to people.

- How did Masha herself take what happened?

- It was not stressful for her. Rather, she took it as an adventure. We all fell down in childhood, rode down hills. And in general, Masha is a very positive child: she gets up and lies down with a smile. When her brother took her from Andreevsky Spusk, they could not climb the hill - they went around the Val, warmed up in the pet store. Usually children go home 10 minutes - that day it took an hour. But Masha came home in a good mood. She just didn't understand why she couldn't get up. Probably, if she realized that there is the whole slide in ice, she would return to class. But she is a child. And I have never seen such ice before.

Edition RBC Ukraine I learned that Masha has many brothers and sisters - her family took several children from the orphanage. The little Kiev resident also noted that she could not calmly watch the sensational video.

And the girl's family says that because of the unexpected fame they are trying not to wear the same hat on Masha.
