On Sunday afternoon, DTE Energy from Detroit said that around 600 000 customers were hit by storms in July in southeastern Michigan 19 and 20.

Officials said it was the biggest storm that hit the region in recent years.

The utility company said it had restored power supply to 250 000 consumers and had to restore all electricity by Wednesday, July 24.

The Consumers Energy company from Jackson said it had generally affected about 220 000 customers and that it hopes to recover electricity on Tuesday.

During a storm, over 2600 power lines were shot down.

The National Meteorological Service reported that high temperatures were recorded on July 20 at weather stations in Atlantic City, New Jersey; New York; Westfield, Massachusetts. Manchester, New Hampshire; and the island of Wallops, Virginia.

From Carolina to Maine, daily highs reached 90 degrees Fahrenheit (32,2 Celsius) on Sunday. In combination with high humidity, the temperature in some places reached 110 degrees Fahrenheit (43,3 Celsius).

The New York City Police Department asked residents not to panic because of power outages.

The center of New York faced a power outage before the onset of extreme heat. Residents were preparing for the fact that due to the abnormal heat and the load on the network due to the massive use of air conditioners, it is possible to turn off at the weekend.

Electricity company Con Ed reported on 12 000 on July 21 point disconnects, mainly in the Brooklyn and Queens areas.

Con Ed asked customers in some southeast Brooklyn neighborhoods to "conserve energy while company crews work to fix equipment problems." The utility also said it reduced voltage by 8 percent in those areas to maintain service while repairs are made.

The city also ordered office buildings to be installed on Sunday with thermostats not lower than 78 degrees (+ 25,5 Celsius) in order to reduce the load on the electrical network. A day earlier, due to the heat, the celebration of the 1969 Moon Landing of the Year Square and the open-air festival featuring football star Megan Rapino and musician John Legent were canceled.
