Survey: less than half of US residents believe Trump should be removed from power

Less than half of all US residents believe that President Donald Trump should be removed from power after the impeachment, which was announced to him on Wednesday by the House of Representatives. This is stated in the results of a Reuters / Ipsos poll, пишет "Voice of America".

A nationwide online poll, conducted a few hours after the majority of lawmakers in the lower house of Congress voted to impeach Trump, demonstrates that the highly controversial actions of the Democrats had little effect on the mindset in a split society.

When asked about specific articles of impeachment, 53% of respondents agreed that Trump abused his power, and 51% confirmed that he impeded Congress. About 42% of those polled, most of them Democrats, said that the Senate should remove the president from power.

Another 17% believe that Congress should condemn Trump's actions, 29% of respondents believe that impeachment articles should be repealed, the rest of the survey participants said that they did not have their own opinions on this matter.

Society is still split over the impeachment of Trump, who claims that the Democrats are witch-hunting against him and illegally trying to remove him from power.

Only 44% of Americans approve of Congressional action on Trump. 41% of respondents do not approve of the impeachment process and the way the democrats conduct it in the House of Representatives.

When asked how impeachment affected their attitude to Trump, 26% of respondents said that they now support the president more. A decrease in support was reported by 20% of respondents, 48% of respondents did not change their views on Trump.

The Reuters / Ipsos survey, which was conducted throughout the country from December 18 to 19, involved 1108 people. The margin of error for the survey is 3 percentage points.
