Poll: every second young Russian would like to emigrate
Yuri Levada Analytical Center Levada Center conducted a survey according to which every second young Russian would like to leave Russia. Writes about it "Present Tense".
53% of citizens aged 18 to 24 would like to emigrate from Russia (“definitely yes” and “probably yes”). This is the highest figure since April 2009.
Among those who thought about leaving or taking steps to leave, the share of Putin's supporters is 54%, the share of those who do not approve of Putin's activity is 46%.
“If we talk about feelings that have strengthened recently, then confusion is more common (17% versus 10% among those who did not think about it) and shame about what is happening in the country (18% versus 11%). At the same time, in this group of respondents, hope for the future grew to a lesser extent (27% versus 37%),” says the Levada Center report.

Among the reasons that make Russians think about moving:
- desire to provide children with a decent future abroad (45%),
- economic situation in the country (40%),
- political situation (33%),
- high quality medical services abroad (35%),
- high quality educational services abroad (26%),
- career opportunities outside Russia (28%).
The survey was conducted from 26 September to 2 October 2019 on a representative all-Russian sample of urban and rural population of 1601 people aged 18 years and older in 137 settlements, 50 constituent entities of the Russian Federation. The study is conducted at the respondent’s home using a personal interview method. The distribution of answers is given as a percentage of the total number of respondents, writes Levada.

According to a survey conducted in September 2019, 21% of Russians of all age groups expressed a desire to move abroad for permanent residence. This indicator is 6 points higher than in May 2019.
Tracing the dynamics over the past six years, one can note a small amplitude of fluctuations in emigration moods. This indicator reached its maximum value in 2013 year: then 22% of respondents expressed their desire to move. The lowest level of emigration sentiment was recorded in the 2017 year (14-15%).
The willingness to move has not changed significantly compared to a survey conducted in 2017. The total number of those who are taking some steps to move is about 7%.
A survey conducted in September showed an increase in emigration sentiment, including among wealthy Russians whose income level allows them to purchase durable goods (28%, the national average is 21%). More often, respondents with higher education (26%) also declare their desire to leave.
Compared to December of 2018, the share of respondents whose acquaintances have already moved abroad (20%) has not changed. More often young people (31%), respondents with a higher income level (28%) and education (26%) have such acquaintances.
