UN denied Russia postponement of meetings outside US

The first committee of the UN General Assembly, dealing with disarmament and international security, did not support Russia's proposal to postpone its work from the United States due to the issue of visas to diplomats, the correspondent reports. RIA News.

The draft decision was called “Increasing the efficiency of the First Committee.”

The document says that the General Assembly asks the UN Secretary General to submit a report no later than 1 on February 2020 on the fulfillment by the American government of its obligations under the agreement with the organization of 1947 on the location of UN headquarters.

In addition, the draft decision said that the General Assembly asks UN Secretary General to submit a report on his efforts to ensure the full implementation of the agreement by March 1 of 2020.

In the absence of progress by 1 on April 2020, the authors of the document ask the UN Secretary General to submit a report on alternative venues for the next session of the First Committee, including Geneva or Vienna, as well as possible budgetary implications.

According to the document, the General Assembly decides that if the issue of issuing visas to diplomats is not resolved within a reasonable and limited time, and also if the Secretary General does not participate more actively in solving this problem, the GA will consider convening a session of the First 2020 Committee in Geneva or Vienna.
