It is no secret that renting in New York is expensive. However, areas that are not affordable for a simple resident may surprise you.
Recently, Renthop published a study of the modern real estate market, which compared the average rates for renting a two-bedroom apartment. An apartment is considered available if no more than 35% of family income is spent on its rent.
Of the 139 neighborhoods the site studied, just 9 had affordable rents. That's just 6,5 percent of all residential neighborhoods, the lowest percentage of any city Renthop analyzed.
Long Island City, Lower East Side and Williamsburg were the most inaccessible areas.
