About a thousand immigrants did not renew their work permit due to problems with mail

Applications to extend temporary work permits for more 900 young immigrants were canceled due to mail problems, which, according to immigration lawyers, turned out to be bigger than previously thought.

The United States Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) has recognized technical problems and published information that those who have been rejected can submit new applications.

Immigrants tried to renew their work permits under a program known as DACA, which allowed immigrants who were illegally brought into the country to go to school in the United States without fear of deportation.

5 September, the Trump administration canceled the program, but said that those whose permissions expire before 5 in March 2018 can renew their application by October 5 for the 2-year period.

The Citizenship and Immigration Services stated that they are currently sending letters to 900 migrants who were identified by applications sent to the post office before October 5. As soon as immigrants receive these letters, they will have a 33 day to reapply.

The agency reported that more people could be hurt and that it was working with the United States Postal Service to determine how many applications were not delivered.

The government has stated that DACA recipients will not be able to work until their permits are officially renewed. But they will not be a priority for deportation.

The USCIS stated that applicants who believed that the extension of their permission was denied due to problems with the mail, can contact someone in the support department or by email.
