For just a few days, a rare natural phenomenon has returned to Yosemite - or rather, an illusion that makes it seem as if boiling lava is flowing directly over a rock in Yosemite National Park. “Fire Falls” can be seen and captured in photos and videos only once a year.

"Fire Falls" comes to life when the setting sun shines light onto the flow of water at right angles, writes CNN. This phenomenon takes place only a couple of days in February, and hundreds of visitors come here every day. How a waterfall will look like in a given year depends on how much water flows from the cliff.

Vache Geyoglian, a photographer from Fresno, California, photographed the falls last Monday evening—his first encounter with the natural wonder.

"My reaction was complete astonishment," he told CNN. “I was excited and amazed when I finally saw it in person and took some good pictures.”

“My friend and I got to this place around 14:00-14:30 and were the first,” said Geyogliyan. “But it didn’t last long, as the whole area was filled with hundreds of people wanting to take pictures of the fiery waterfall.”

The natural phenomenon will dissipate this weekend. This year, the weather, more precisely, snow and storm activity in the region, played an important role in the visual impression of the “firefall.” Eyewitnesses captured the miracle of nature on video:
