Earlier this month, President Joe Biden signed an executive order aimed at restoring public confidence in the government by making it easier to renew passports, apply for social security benefits, and receive disaster relief.

Americans will be able to renew their passports online, instead of printing forms and paying by paper check or money order. New security cars and computers with enhanced screening functions should make it easier for the roughly 2 million people who fly daily to pass security lines. FOX9.

The processing time for a passport application can take up to 11 weeks, while the expedited process can take up to seven weeks.

Over the summer, the State Department said the wait time could take up to 18 weeks due to the ripple effect of the coronavirus pandemic, which has caused major disruptions in the issuance process domestically, as well as at foreign embassies and consulates.

“We do ask people to apply or renew their passport at least six months before you need it to avoid any last-minute hassles,” Rachel Arndt, deputy assistant secretary for passport services, previously said.
