One of the largest cruise ships in the world was sent to a landfill immediately after construction: what happened
Unfinished and abandoned 9000-passenger Global Dream II cruise ship to be scrapped after shipbuilder files for bankruptcy, reports TheGuardian.
What was supposed to be one of the world's largest cruise ships is going to landfill.
Designed to carry more than 9000 passengers, the Global Dream II was almost ready at a shipyard on the German Baltic coast. However, shipbuilder MV Werften filed for bankruptcy in January 2022 and administrators are unable to find a buyer for the Global Dream II.

German cruise industry magazine An Bord reported that the lower hull of the liner would be scrapped at the price of scrap metal.
Administrator Christoph Morgen reportedly told a press conference on 8 July that the ship needed to be removed from the MV Werften shipyard in Wismar by the end of the year, as the shipyard was sold to the Thyssenkrupp naval division, which plans to build warships there.
Demand for cruise ships has collapsed since the start of the coronavirus pandemic.
The Global Dream II and its sister ship Global Dream, which is not currently sailing, would be the world's largest cruise ships by passenger capacity when completed.
