44-th US President Barack Obama urged people to more often become mentors for the younger generation, noting that this is what he will do after the completion of presidential powers.
In 2014, the first African-American president founded the My Brother's Keeper program, which aims to open new opportunities for boys and young men of color, including by increasing high school graduation rates and increasing employment, reports “Voice of America".
On December 15, 2016, he stated that he intends to remain a participant in this program for the rest of his life, and also said that it was “just the beginning” of his mentoring career.
“From day one, my administration has been focused on creating opportunity for all people. And by almost every measure, our country is better than when I started. But we have also long recognized that some sectors of society continually face challenges, and this is especially true for boys and young men of color,” Obama said.
The Watchdog My Brother program is aimed at creating opportunities for young people from a non-white population through projects with mentors, including professionals and famous people; it also focuses on the education and training of its members.
“Ensuring that all young people can achieve their goals is the most important challenge we face as a country,” Obama concluded.
His presidential powers end on January 20, when 45 President Donald Trump will swear allegiance to the country.
