Obama will hold in the White House the second "Astronomical night"
US President Barack Obama will hold on the southern lawn of the White House the second Astronomical Night.
The Astronomical Night will be held on Monday and will bring together scientists, astronauts, engineers, astronomers and space industry experts who will share their experiences with schoolchildren and teachers while observing the stars and the Moon.
The event aims to emphasize the importance of science, engineering and mathematical schooling.
One of its participants will be 14-year-old Ahmed Mohamed, a schoolboy from the city of Irving, Texas, who was suspended from classes when the teacher took the homemade electronic clock he had brought for the bomb.
In addition, the White House reported that more than 80 national parks, observatories, schools, museums and astronomical clubs are organizing their own star-watching events like the Astronomical Night.
The first Astronomical Night was held at the White House in 2009.
“There are many mysteries and many problems that you, the students, have to solve,” Obama said then. “I want to be a president who will do everything so that you have teachers and tools that will help you find their solution.”
