Obama will take part in the election campaign for Congress

44-th US President Barack Obama announced his return to big politics: From September 7 he will take part in election campaigns in support of candidates for the Congress from the Democratic Party.

Obama virtually ceased political activity after 2017’s retirement in January, writes, “Voice of America".

But on September 7, he plans to address voters at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. This speech will be the first in a series of campaign events with the participation of the former US President on the eve of the midterm elections to Congress, which will be voted on in November.

After speaking in Illinois, Obama will attend a political event in Southern California, where he plans to support seven Democratic candidates for the US House of Representatives. All of them run in districts traditionally controlled by Republicans. However, two years ago, during the presidential election, voters in these constituencies supported Hillary Clinton, the Democratic candidate.

After that, Obama is expected in Ohio. Next week he will speak in support of Richard Cordrey, who is running for governor. Cordrey was formerly an employee of the Barack Obama administration.

In mid-September, the ex-president plans to return to Illinois, after which he will speak to voters in Pennsylvania. This is a key state for Democrats. Here they expect to receive 23 seats in the lower house of Congress. This will help them re-occupy most of the seats in the House of Representatives, so that the Democrats will be able to control the actions of the Republican administration of Donald Trump.
