Obama ordered to investigate all cyber attacks during elections

President Barack Obama ordered a full investigation of possible hacker attacks during the US elections. Obama said he wants to get a report before leaving the White House 20 January 2017, writes USA Today.

“We must take stock. We have to look at what happened, learn some lessons from it,” said security adviser Lisa Monaco.

White House Press Secretary Eric Schultz confirmed that Barack Obama has ordered a study into possible hacking attacks before the end of his presidential term. “There were signs of hacking during the 2008 and 2016 elections. The President has directed that we use every tool we have to thoroughly investigate this issue,” Schultz said.

A spokesman for the White House also stressed that the investigation will concern not only the latest elections, but also the awesome campaign, reports The Washington Post.

“I want to emphasize that this is not an attempt to challenge the election results. The president is well on his way to transitioning power,” said Eric Schultz, White House press secretary.

Recall that representatives of the CIA have already stated that cyber criminals tried to intervene in the US electoral process. In November, a joint statement by the Department of Homeland Security and the CIA said that behind the attacks are groups controlled by the Russian authorities.

In particular, US intelligence officials accused Russian hackers of attacks on the headquarters of the Democratic Party and the hacking of electronic mailboxes, the transfer of Wikileaks data, and the hacking of an electronic vote counting system.

According to representatives of the internal security department, all these measures were aimed at disrupting the elections in the United States and undermining the confidence of Americans in the very idea of ​​elections.
