Official in New York refused to issue a driver's license to illegal immigrants

A New York State official criticized a law passed by 17 on June allowing illegal immigrants to apply for a driver's license. According to the clerk, he "will not issue a driver's license to illegal immigrants."

In a letter from District Clerk Erie Michael Kearns, sent by 18 Jun to lawyer Michael Syragus, he asked a lawyer to represent his interests in a federal court in a lawsuit in a lawsuit against this law, writes Fox News.

The representative of the lawyer said that the letter was delivered to him, and that he had not yet decided on the case.

A recent law makes New York the thirteenth state that permits the issuance of driving licenses to immigrants illegally residing in the United States.

“After reviewing this regulation, I am convinced that it does not comply with federal law. More importantly, however, compliance with this law puts me and other county employees at a disadvantage by forcing us to decide whether to comply with federal law or a newly enacted state law. I anticipate that I will be sued no matter what choice I make,” Kerns wrote in the letter.

The official is confident that the innovation violates the law on immigration reform and control from 1986 of the year, which made it illegal to hire illegal immigrants.

Kearns said he hopes to repeal the law through the courts before he takes effect in December 2019, adding that he will not comply with this law even if it enters into force.

When asked whether he was willing to lose his position due to the failure to comply with the law, Kearns replied that he hoped that this would not happen, although the state governor has the authority to dismiss him and he is ready for such a development.

The office of New York Governor Andrew Cuomo has not yet responded to Fox News's request for comment. Initially, the governor expressed concern that US immigration officials would be able to use information from the database on issuing driver's licenses to illegal immigrants in New York for their subsequent detention and deportation.

In this regard, Cuomo asked Prosecutor James Letizia to conduct a legal review of the bill. James finally declared her support for the document, and Cuomo signed it, which gave it legal status.

Proponents of innovation, including the State Business Council and immigrant rights advocates, believe driving license will help immigrants get jobs.

State legislators representing the state party argue that illegal immigrants cannot be encouraged to violate US immigration laws.
