New York schoolchildren will rest on Muslim holidays

In New York schools, starting this year, two Muslim holidays are declared days off - Eid al-Adha (the holiday of breaking the fast) and Kurban Bayram (the holiday of sacrifice), said the mayor of the city, Bill de Blasio.

According to the mayor, now hundreds of thousands of Muslim families will not have to solve the dilemma on the day of the holiday - send their children to school or leave them at home to celebrate the holiday with everyone.

Bill de Blasio noted that, given the size of the Muslim population of New York, the decision to add these two Islamic holidays to the school calendar was dictated by “common sense.”
