NYT: Illegal Immigrants Work at Trump Golf Club in New Jersey for years

For more than five years, working as a housekeeper at Trump Golf Club in Bedminster, New Jersey, Quiz Morales made a bed for Donald Trump, cleaned his toilet and cleaned his golf achievements awards. When he visited this place already as president, the woman was offered to wear a badge in the shape of an American flag.

For the "outstanding" support that she provided during Trump's trips to the golf club, Morales received a certificate from the White House Communications Agency with her name in July, the newspaper writes The New York Times.

This is quite a significant achievement for the illegal immigrant, which is Morales.

The woman has gone from growing corn in the countryside of Guatemala to beating pillows in the exclusive golf club of the US President. According to Morales, she illegally crossed the southern US border in 1999, she later ended up in New Jersey, where she was hired to work at Trump Golf Club in 2013, using fake documents.

According to the woman, she is not the only employee of the club who is in the US illegally.

46-year-old Sandra Diaz was born in Costa Rica, now she is a legal resident of the United States, but according to her, when she worked in Bedminster from 2010 to 2013, she was also in the country illegally. The two women said that they had worked at the club for years as part of a group of cleaning, caring and gardening workers for a golf club, which included many illegal immigrants, although they could not name the exact number.

However, there is no evidence that the Trump golf club leaders or the president himself knew about the immigration status of these employees. However, at least two club managers knew about it and took steps to help these employees avoid disclosing their immigration status.

Diaz said she witnessed the hiring of several people who were illegal in the club.

Trump made the fight against illegal immigration one of the main points of his campaign and presidency. He claimed that in his companies at work “there is not a single illegal immigrant”.

At the same time, an illicit Morales worked in his golf club both during the election campaign and after the election. The woman said that an employee of the club brings and brings her and a group of other illegal employees to and from work every day, because she knows that these people cannot get a driver's license because of their illegal status in the United States.

Morales has only two years of education, she came to the United States without saying a word in English, but she was lucky to become the president’s favorite: she cleaned his villa at the golf club while he was watching TV nearby; she stood nearby when the head of the White House office, John Kelly, held a meeting with the president, as well as during other important conversations of the head of state.

“I never imagined that as an immigrant from a village in Guatemala, I would see such important people,” she admitted.

At the same time, Morales noted that Trump’s public comments had hurt her since he became president, including a comparison of Latin American immigrants with criminals. She said that these statements by the President, along with offensive comments from the golf club manager about her intelligence and immigration status, led to her feeling that she could no longer be silent.

“We are tired of abuse, insults, and the fact that he talks about us, although he knows that we help him make money. We work hard, trying to meet all his needs and at the same time we have to put up with humiliation on his part,” the immigrant said.

Morales and Diaz contacted the New York Times through their New Jersey lawyer, Anibal Romero, who represents them in immigration matters. Morales said she understands that she can be fired or deported as a result of such actions, although she has applied for protection under the asylum laws. She is also exploring the possibility of filing a lawsuit about abuses and discrimination in the workplace.

In separate interviews in Spanish, Morales and Diaz talked in detail about their work at the club and their interaction with his management, including Trump. Both women called the president a demanding but kind leader who sometimes left a good tip.

Women often could not remember the exact dates of the events described by them, but they remembered in detail the important conversations and highlights of their work.

Morales often intersected with Trump in past years, and her husband confirmed that she sometimes came home in a good mood because the owner of the club gave her a good tip in 50 or 100 dollars.

To make sure that she was actually a member of the club, The Times journalists checked the payout history of Morales and her W-2 forms, to which Trump's golf club really is listed as her employer.

Journalists also checked her forged documents, which she provided during employment. None of the official databases contain such a social security number, which often indicates that it is fake. According to the woman, she bought these documents from someone in New Jersey.

Diaz currently has a green card and a real social security number, although, according to her, she did not have legal status in the United States when she worked at a golf club.
