New Walmart Bonus Helps Save Up To 85% On Medicines: How It Works

Some prescription drugs are now free for members, others are available significantly less expensively. Money Talks News.

If you rely on prescription drugs, Walmart is offering a new bonus that can cut your costs.

Join Walmart + with a paid membership for a selection of free drugs, plus thousands of other prescription drugs at up to 85% off.

The prescription savings program—Walmart + Rx for less—can save you money on “commonly prescribed medications for a variety of health needs, including heart health, mental health, antibiotics, allergies and diabetes,” Walmart says.

The new program is not Walmart's first attempt to cut prescription drug costs. Since 2006, Walmart has offered a generic drug program: $4 for a 30-day supply of many generic drugs or $10 for a 90-day supply. (This program remains available to all Walmart shoppers, even those who are not Walmart+ members.)

Walmart+ Rx for less is the latest bonus added to Walmart+. In December, the program launched free next-day delivery and two-day shipping for members with no minimum purchase requirements.

In a press release, Janey Whiteside, executive vice president and director of customer service at Walmart in the United States, said the new perks are part of an effort to make Walmart + a “perfect life hack” for customers:

“We know we can use our size and scale to make our customers' lives easier in a way that only we can.”
