'I was torn apart': a famous Russian presenter got into a scandal over Ukraine

Russian TV star, presenter and producer Tina Kandelaki said that “a huge humanitarian catastrophe occurred” in Ukraine due to “oligarchic clans” that seized power in the country.

The TV presenter previously found herself in an awkward situation at the World Economic Forum in Davos (Switzerland), after speaking out on the annexation of Crimea and the situation in Ukraine, writes “Columnist«.

“I'm not afraid of anything when there's nothing to hide. I was at this meeting in Davos, where I said nothing, sat and listened. Traditional representatives of the Anglo-Saxon world gathered there with a very conservative point of view. There was a conversation about Crimea, about Ukraine. When they started saying, “You, the Russian delegation, should go back and convey that you should not interfere in free elections in Ukraine,” I was torn on this note,” Kandelaki said.

The presenter was told that claims against Russia over Crimea lie in the field of international law, and not personal feelings, and one does not need to go to Ukraine to discuss such issues. In response, she stated that Ukraine is now experiencing a “humanitarian catastrophe” because of the oligarchs.

«In Ukraine, in my opinion, a huge humanitarian catastrophe occurred due to the fact that oligarchic clans tore this country apart. All the “fighters for Crimea” were not even there and do not know that a referendum was taking place. They don’t know what state Crimea was in and how everything has changed. I believe that the people of Crimea voted unequivocally. They didn’t live in Crimea, and neither did I. We must take into account the opinion of the people,” Tina emphasized.

After a meeting with politicians in Davos at the World Economic Forum, Kandelaki published a daring post on the web, where she was outraged by the talk of world politicians about Russia. In particular, she was offended by communication with activists who rudely answered her about the situation in the annexed Crimea.

“At one closed meeting, I listened for an hour to how they taught Russia to live. At the end, she couldn’t stand it, took the floor and asked those who had been to Crimea personally to raise their hands. Several hands went up. Most of us. I say, why are you all talking about Crimea, but you have never even gone there once? Let’s take a look and talk to people,” Kandelaki reproached the forum participants.

“I’m not trolling, I think it’s more honest. At the exit, the main “activist” tells me, don’t take it personally. I say, ok, but you should come. Answer: “My relatives left Ukraine a hundred years ago, why the hell should I go back there,” the TV presenter burst into criticism.

Recall that the Russian journalist Skabeev repeatedly tried to disrupt the Ukrainian live broadcast in PACE.

According to the published video of the incident, Skabeev tried to prevent Speech to journalists by First Deputy Speaker Rada Irina Gerashchenko. Skabeeva spoke simultaneously with Gerashchenko, deliberately trying to kill her.

Earlier, the same journalist tried to break into the live broadcast of Ukrainian journalists in PACE, however was publicly humiliated.

In September, 2018, Ukraine announced termination of the Treaty of Friendship and Cooperation with Russia.
