The United States developed a new super-weapon. VIDEO
The Pentagon is developing a new electromagnetic rail gun that does not require gunpowder and explosives. Details of the development of new weapons published edition The Wall Streer Journal, calling it a "deadly supergun."
It is reported that a new weapon accelerates 25-kilogram projectile on electromagnetic rails, while the speed of the projectile can reach more than 1,5 km per second. The ammunition can pierce seven steel plates and leave behind a hole in the 12,7, see
The new railgun is capable of firing in the 125 range of miles, while the range of the current 6-inch guns of the US Navy has so far been only 15 miles.
The publication reports that the gun, designed for powerful offensive operations, is capable of destroying enemy ships, tanks and terrorist camps. Moreover, the Pentagon is thinking, in the long term, to replace the present-day missile defense system with a railgun — it is considered to be a more effective and cheap means of intercepting missiles in the sky.
The US Navy began working on the railgun ten years ago and spent more than 5 billions on it.
A new development video has also been published.
As you know, The Wall Streer Journal has previously written repeatedly that the United States could use a new powerful electromagnetic rail gun to protect the Baltic countries in the event of aggression from the Russian Federation. Journalists quoted First Deputy Secretary of Defense Robert Work as saying that the new weapon “will have enormous deterrent value.” Journalists also cited the words of military engineers, noting that the railgun would be useful for “protecting the Baltic countries from Russia” or American allies “from China in the South China Sea.” Now, citing sources in the US Department of Defense, the publication notes that the work of the American military on the rail gun has more than once been subject to hacker attacks from Russia and China.
