#NoMusicForICE: musicians boycott Amazon because of its connection with ICE agents

Hundreds of musicians decided to boycott festivals and events funded by technology giant Amazon. All because of his ties to the U.S. Immigration and Customs Agency (ICE), Newsweek.

According to the organizers of the campaign #NoMusicForICE, over 1000 artists have promised not to perform at Amazon sponsored events.

However, starting on Black Friday, the musicians decided to step up and send Amazon notifications asking them to remove their music from the digital and streaming platform. It is unclear how many artists are participating in the second phase of the campaign.

According to the Medium information published by the organizers, there are indie bands and artists Speedy Ortiz, Deerhoof, Downtown Boys, CAKE, Atmosphere and Immortal Technique among the artists who signed the initial boycott of Amazon.

In a list of Amazon’s online claims, artists are demanding that the technology giant terminate its contracts with government agencies that “violate human rights.”

The list also calls for ICE to stop providing cloud services to organizations such as Palantir Is a data analysis company with major contracts with ICE, and its software is hosted in the AWS cloud.

“We will not allow Amazon to use our creative potential to promote our brand, while it allows attacks on immigrants, workers, and the local economy,” the campaign’s website said in a statement.

In recent months, calls for Amazon to stop using their services to help ICE arrest and deport immigrants have increased. Now more and more people across the country and around the world promise to boycott the technology company if it continues to defend its position.
