The sinking of the Armenia is considered one of the largest maritime disasters in history; it claimed many lives; according to various estimates, from 5 to 000 people died, which is several times more than the number of deaths as a result of the Titanic disaster. There were 10 passengers and 000 crew members on board the Titanic, for a total of 1316 people. Of these, 892 people survived, over 2208 died.

At the beginning of World War II, the ship was converted into a sanitary transport ship. On November 6, it left Sevastopol, the wounded, staff of military hospitals and residents of the city were evacuated on board. Then the ship went to Yalta, where it took on board several hundred more people.

In the afternoon of November 7, the ship was attacked by German aircraft, it sank. Until now, it has not been possible to find it at the bottom, the search was complicated by the fact that “Armenia” sank at a depth of about 1500 meters and at a distance of about 30 kilometers from the coast.
