I drank coffee in a cafe: Zelensky was fined for violating the quarantine

The police drew up administrative protocols for President Vladimir Zelensky, the head of his office, Andrei Yermak, the head physician Viktor Lyashko and others, writes Liga.net.

President Vladimir Zelensky was fined for violating the quarantine while visiting a cafe in Khmelnitsky. He announced this to reporters at a briefing in Chernigov.

“You can take off your mask, you can hear better, otherwise it will be like in the Khmelnytsky region, they will give me a fine, and, in principle, they did the right thing,” the president said at the beginning of his approach to the press.

The press service of the Ministry of Internal Affairs said that administrative protocols were drawn up on the owner of the cafe and its visitors: Zelensky, the head of the Presidential Office Andrei Yermak, his first deputy Sergey Trofimov, the chief medical doctor Viktor Lyashko, the head of the Khmelnitsky Regional State Administration Dmitry Gabinet and the mayor of Khmelnitsky Alexander Simchishin. The fine for violation of the quarantine is from 17 000 to 34 000 UAH ($ 639- $ 1277 at the rate on June 11).

On June 3, Zelensky with members of his office in Khmelnitsky visited a cafe and drank coffee there, although the institution’s work at the entrance of visitors was forbidden at that moment due to quarantine, according to the order of the Cabinet of Ministers. Cafes and restaurants were allowed to work only on takeaway and on open terraces until June 5th.

On June 4, chief medical officer Lyashko said that he did not consider Zelensky’s trip to the cafe a violation of quarantine.

“We were walking along the main street after lunch and wanted to grab a takeaway coffee near a cafe. But one of the restaurateurs in this cafe told us: “We are ready to work today according to the standards that the chief sanitary doctor announced and showed yesterday,” Lyashko said.

According to him, they “went into the hall to see if everything was really ready and how it would work, so that the president could be convinced that there would be no problems if we adhere to all the norms.”

“I watched and worried how our rules were adhered to. Everything went smoothly. We looked and left. There was nothing like it was advertised. Yesterday the government voted to reopen establishments on June 5th. The resolution on work rules was published the day before yesterday. And the president saw how it could work,” commented the chief medical officer.

On the same day Zelensky said he was ready to pay a fine.

“I’m ready to pay a fine if I violated something... Yes, yes, that’s right, they told me, they invited me, I went in and checked everything there,” the president explained.
