The second time in 4 days: the United States accused Russia of a dangerous interception of an American fighter
A Russian jet fighter came dangerously close to an American spy plane over the Mediterranean Sea - and this was the second such incident in just 4 days, writes Fox News.
The U.S. Navy announced that a Russian fighter plane had gone too close to the U.S. P-8A reconnaissance aircraft over the Mediterranean Sea on Sunday, April 19.
US Navy officials said the Russian fighter jet "violated universal flight rules" passed within 25 feet (about 8 meters) of a US P-8A while flying in international airspace. According to them, the plane approached the P-100A twice within 8 minutes.
The second interception was determined to be "unsafe and unprofessional", exposing the P-8A to turbulence.

This is the second time in 4 days that a Russian fighter is approaching a dangerous distance from an American reconnaissance aircraft over the Mediterranean Sea.
April 15th US Navy blamed another Russian plane in a similar "unsafe" high-speed maneuver when he intercepted another American P-8A reconnaissance aircraft, making a dangerous inverted maneuver at high speed.
“While the Russian aircraft was operating in international airspace, this interaction was irresponsible,” the statement said, citing the 1972 Agreement for the Prevention of Incidents on the High Seas and Airspace. “We expect them to behave in accordance with international standards established to ensure safety and prevent incidents.”
The US Navy said the interception by the Russian SU-35 lasted 42 minutes, adding that the US P-8A Poseidon "acted in accordance with international law and did not provoke this Russian activity."
