In the United States recorded the first case of transmission of Chinese coronavirus from person to person

The United States has recorded the sixth case of infection with the Chinese coronavirus and the first of human-to-human transmission of the virus, reports RBC.

This is a married couple from Chicago. A 60-year-old woman returned on January 13 from the Chinese city of Wuhan, the epicenter of the spread of the virus. This is the first human-to-human transmission of the virus in the United States. In total, in the United States at the moment, taking into account the infected men, six have become infected with coronavirus. Other cases in the United States are in Arizona, California, and Washington.

Illinois CDC officials and health officials said everyone who came in contact with the last patient was tested for symptoms.

According to the latest WHO data, among the victims of the new coronavirus there are already 170 people, more than 6 thousand people are infected. The virus went beyond China. The total number of countries in which infected people are detected is close to 20. There is no information on cases of the disease in Russia yet.

WHO recognizes coronavirus outbreak as an emergency of international concern

The World Health Organization (WHO) has recognized the outbreak of a new coronavirus in China as an emergency of international importance, said Tedros Director General Adhan Gebreyesus, reports RIA News.

According to the latest information, 7834 people are already sick all over the world. Of these, 7736 confirmed cases were registered in China, and 98 - in 18 countries, eight cases of transmission of the virus from person to person. 1370 people are in serious condition, 170 have died. A further 12 people were suspected of having the disease.

The spread of the disease in China is considered very high. The organization also recommended giving the disease a temporary name “acute respiratory disease 2019-nCoV”, and giving the virus itself a temporary name “2019-nCoV”.

At the same time, the Director-General of WHO noted that experts believe in the possibility of stopping the outbreak.

Coronavirus spread

Late last month, Chinese authorities reported an outbreak of pneumonia of unknown origin in Wuhan. The first cases were related to the seafood market. Experts previously established that the causative agent of the disease was a new type of coronavirus - 2019-nCoV.

Outside of mainland China, infections have been reported in Hong Kong, Macau, Taiwan, Thailand, Japan, South Korea, the USA, Canada, Vietnam, Singapore, Nepal, France, Australia, Malaysia, Germany and Finland.

Today, Prime Minister Mikhail Mishustin ordered the closure of the Russian border in the Far East as a measure to prevent the spread of the virus.

Symptoms and Prevention

The main symptoms of a disease caused by coronavirus are a feeling of fatigue, difficulty breathing, fever, cough and sore throat, the press service of the Federal Service for Supervision of Consumer Rights Protection and Human Welfare reported.

The department urged to treat these signs very carefully if the patient visited China and the surrounding regions in the past two weeks or contacted someone who had recently returned from there.

As noted in Rospotrebnadzor, pneumonia caused by coronavirus cannot be treated with antibiotics.

“If pneumonia develops, treatment is aimed at maintaining lung function,” experts said.

The department specified that there is no specific antiviral drug from the new coronavirus.

“People of all ages can become infected with coronavirus, but children and people over 65 years of age, as well as people with weakened immune systems, are at risk of severe disease,” Rospotrebnadzor said.

Due to the spread of infection, the department recommended avoiding handshakes when greeting and kisses on the cheek. Experts also advised to keep hands and surfaces clean - use a disinfectant, always wash hands before eating, regularly clean the computer keyboard, smartphone screen, remotes, door handles and handrails at work.
