Coronavirus reached Belarus and Lithuania: what other countries confirmed the first cases of the disease

The first case of coronavirus SARS-CoV-2 infection has been recorded in Belarus. Tests conducted the day before at the Republican Scientific and Practical Center for Epidemiology and Microbiology showed the presence of a pathogen in one of the students from Iran, the Ministry of Health of Belarus said on Friday, February 28.

According to these data, the young man arrived on February 22 with a flight from Baku.

“The patient and those in contact with him were placed in closed boxes in the Minsk Infectious Diseases Hospital. The young man feels satisfactory,” it is further indicated.

The Office announced a decision to examine and conduct laboratory diagnostics of all citizens who arrived in Belarus from South Korea, Iran and Italy from February 20 in connection with the worsening epidemic situation in these countries. In addition, sanitary and epidemiological measures are being carried out in Belarus in order to prevent the spread of the coronavirus in the country, the agency said. At the same time, Minsk still does not see the need to close the borders due to the epidemic, said Minister of Health Vladimir Karanik.

The first cases of coronavirus in Lithuania, New Zealand and sub-Saharan Africa

On the same day, the first case of coronavirus infection was reported by the Lithuanian authorities. A woman who returned to the country on February 24 after a trip to Verona, in northern Italy, was admitted to the Šiauliai hospital and isolated from contacts. According to doctors, the symptoms of the disease are not very pronounced, the temperature is normal.

The number of people recovered from COVID-19 pneumonia worldwide by noon (US East Coast time) on February 28 reached 36 people. 686 people died from the consequences of coronavirus infection. The total number of cases is 2867 people. At the moment, the epidemic has affected 83 countries and territories.
