“The orbital integrations indicate that this object is temporarily locked to Earth. There were no signs of disturbances caused by solar radiation pressure, and no connection with a known artificial object was found,” the document says.

Experts recommend further observation of the object.

According to open data, the size of the asteroid is from one to six meters. It belongs to the group of asteroids of Cupids or Apollo.

“Indeed, there are so-called quasi-satellites of the Earth. They have a rather tricky orbit. When we talk about a satellite, we mean that it flies in a circular orbit, like the ISS or Yuri Gagarin.

This object moves more complexly. It flies with the same period as the Earth, without moving far from it, forming a temporary orbit. Such objects do not last long in orbit. They can accompany the Earth for several years and several decades,” explained Boris Shustov, scientific director of the Institute of Astronomy of the Russian Academy of Sciences.
