Forrest Fenn from Santa Fe, New Mexico, discovered that he had hidden a chest of gold, jewelry, and other valuables worth more than $ 1 million.

10 years ago, Forrest Fenn provoked the creation of a cult of followers when he announced that he had hidden a chest somewhere in the Rocky Mountains. He inspired tens of thousands of people to go in search of treasure, but so far the prize has eluded them.

On June 7, Fenn told the local media that a person who wanted to remain anonymous discovered a chest a few days ago. The nameless hunter sent Fenn a photograph of the chest to confirm his finding. Earlier, treasure seekers had already tried to convince Fenn that they had discovered the treasure, but no one could prove it.

Fenn originally conceived the treasure hunt as a means to leave a legacy: in 1989, he was diagnosed with terminal cancer. But he managed to recover. He claimed that he hoped to entice people into going into the wild and give them an old-fashioned adventure - hunting for riches.

Fenn claimed that there were pre-Columbian animal figures, gold nuggets and coins, Chinese jade figures, emerald rings, and other exotic objects in the chest.

He hid the treasure in 2010 and shared clues to its location on his website and in a poem he published in his autobiography, The Thrill of Chase. Fenn said an estimated 350 people tried to find the treasure, but most gave up. It is also known that 4 people died in the search process.

Now online orange banner published with the inscription: "Fenn's treasure was found in 2020 - the hunt is over."

“The chest remained under the stars in the lush forested vegetation of the Rocky Mountains and did not move from the place where I hid it more than 10 years ago,” Fenn, now 89, said on his website. “I don’t know the person who found it, but the poem in my book led him to the exact place.”

Fenn suggested a number of possible next steps for the hunter who discovered the treasure, including selling it or even hiding it again.

His only request is: “Whatever you choose, keep the thrill of the chase alive and continue the legend.”
