US and Canadian fighters intercepted two Russian aircraft near Alaska
On Monday, March 9, American and Canadian fighter jets intercepted two Russian planes that flew over the Beaufort Sea, near the coastline of Alaska, reports CBC News.
The North American Aerospace Defense Command (NORAD) said in a statement that the Russian Tu-142 naval reconnaissance aircraft were accompanied by F-22 and CF-18 aircraft.

NORAD posted a photo and video of the incident on Tuesday, 10 March.
During a four-hour flight on March 9, Russian aircraft never left international airspace, but they were in a 50-mile zone off the coast of Alaska. They came closest to Utiagwick, the northernmost community in the United States and formerly known as Barrow.
NORAD representatives said in a press release that the Russian plane did not enter the sovereign airspace of the United States or Canada.
Russian planes flying near Alaska or Canada have been quite common lately, the last of which were seen in January. In May last year, four Russian bombers and two fighters were intercepted off the coast of Alaska.
